- Steel cut oats take longer to cook than rolled oats. However it's easy to whip up a healthy breakfast with them by adding your favourite milk, or just water. Add 1 cup of steel-cut oats to 3 cups of liquid, bring to the boil then simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add in some nuts, seeds and fresh fruit before serving.
