Bulk Chickpeas (Garbanzo, Non-Organic) - 25kg

Also known as garbanzo beans, chickpeas are the most widely consumed legume in the world. They have a firm texture and delectable taste, reminiscent of chestnut or walnut. A Middle East staple, chickpeas are traditionally used to make hummus and are great in curries and falafel. Combined with whole grains like rice, they provide a virtually fat-free, high quality protein meal.

Ingredients: Dried Chickpeas

Origin: USA

Enjoy Me...

  • 1 cup of dried chickpeas yields about 4 cups of cooked chickpeas. When the chickpeas are cooked, turn the stove off, keep the pot covered, and allow the chickpeas to completely cool in the leftover broth. This last soak adds flavor and promotes a creamy texture.
  • Minimise foaming during cooking, as this often leads to the formation of air pockets in the beans. This translates into a dry texture when cooked. If you see any foaming, skim the surface of the water with a metal spoon to remove the foam, and reduce your heat a bit. Keep a bowl of water nearby to dip the spoon into, in between skimmings. This easily removes the foam from the spoon.
  • We love making our own hummus and experimenting with different herbs and spices.

How Interesting...

  • Chickpeas are an excellent source of the essential trace element molybdenum. They are a very good source of fibre, folic acid, and manganese. They are an important source of macro nutrients, good source of protein, containing almost twice the amount of protein compared to cereal grains, as well as minerals such as iron, magnesium, copper, and zinc.
