The humble lentil has been nourishing humanity for thousands of years. As one of the most healthy and inexpensive sources of protein and iron on the planet, lentils are a legitimate superfood and are the perfect ingredient to warm your heart and soul throughout the winter.

A vegetarian favourite, this nourishing wholefood provides high levels of protein and dietary fibre, while being naturally low in fat and sugar. Lentils readily absorb the flavours of the ingredients they are cooked with, making them super versatile. They’re great in both hot and cold dishes, including hearty meals, soups and salads.

Enjoy Me...

  • Rinse. Add 1 cup of lentils to 4 cups boiling water. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes, until tender.
  • Vegan friendly, add to soups, casseroles, curries, purees and salads.

How Interesting...

  • Lentils are legumes along with other types of beans. They grow in pods that contain either one or two lentil seeds that are round, oval or heart-shaped disks and are oftentimes smaller than the tip of a pencil eraser. They are available, whole or split into halves with the brown and green varieties being the best at retaining their shape after cooking.
