Chiquilin Smoked Paprika - 75g

Smoked Paprika adds a characteristic smokey depth to any stew or casserole.  The sweet and hot dried peppers used are a dense source of nutrition and add warmth without being as spicy as cayenne and chilli powders.

This particular variety of paprika originally comes from Spain and is part of Luis Penalva, SL, a family business that has specialized in herbs and seasonings since 1909. What separates it from the basic paprika you’d find in a run-of-the-mill grocery store is the method by which it’s prepared. The pimenton peppers are dried over a fire containing oak, allowing a deeply smoky flavour to come through without any preservatives or unnatural flavours.

It’s a great spice to have on hand for everyday recipes, and needn’t be reserved for the once-a-year paella! Think fajitas, goulash, popcorn, chocolate even!

Ingredients: Pimenton Peppers

Origin: Spain

Enjoy Me...

  • Smoked paprika is a national spice in Hungary and it is traditionally used in Goulash and Paprikash. Heating smoked paprika unlocks its flavour and it goes well in a wide range of warming dishes. It also tastes great sprinkled dry over dips and side dishes for a smokey flavour sensation.
  • Kick up your summer BBQ sauce. Whether you’re making BBQ sauce from scratch or just pouring the sweet stuff from a bottle, stirring in a pinch or two of smoked paprika will bring out the bold, caramelised flavours of the sauce.
  • Add to a pot of baked beans - a few pinches of smoked paprika gives it a wonderfully smoky effect.
  • Use it as the “secret ingredient” in chocolate desserts. Chocolate lends itself deliciously to all sorts of spices, from the typical cinnamon to the unexpected chili pepper. Try adding a few pinches of smoked paprika to your next chocolate dessert for a sweet smoky element no one will be able to guess. Especially good in chocolate fondues, chocolate cake, chocolate ganache, or chocolate bark.
  • Fajitas take on an extra dimension when you add the smoked paprika – it goes so well with guacamole.

How Interesting...

  • Pimenton peppers has a high sugar content... Keep a watchful eye when cooking with it to make sure it doesn't burn!
