Peppercorns, Black Whole - 50g

Who doesn’t love freshly ground pepper?   Black peppercorns can be added straight to meals whole if you like a punch.  For a more even flavour you can grind them freshly in a pestle and mortar or grinder.

Ingredients: Black Peppercorns

Orgin: Packed in New Zealand from imported ingredients (India)

Enjoy Me...

  • Add a little black pepper, oil and turmeric to a dish at the end of cooking to release the active ingredient in turmeric ‘curcumin’ and make it more bioavailable.

How Interesting...

  • Black Peppercorns come from the common pepper plant (Piper nigrum), a flowering tropical plant native to India. The plant produces tiny berries, or drupes, which can be harvested and processed at various stages of their maturity to achieve different flavors and colors. Black Peppercorns are harvested at full maturity, but before they ripen.
  • Pepper gets its spicy heat mostly from piperine derived both from the outer fruit and the seed.
  • Black Peppercorns have traditionally been used as a remedy for digestive complaints of all kinds: there is some evidence that the chemical that gives peppercorns their hot may assist in chemical functions within the body. In Ayurvedic medicine, black peppercorns are also used to stimulate appetite and to treat colds, coughs and sore throats.
