Turmeric Root (Fresh, Yellow, Spray Free, Not Irradiated) - 500g or 1kg

Turmeric is an edible root that grows underground horizontally and is known for its bright yellow colour. It holds a mystical element and is prized for its healing powers. The fresh root has a pleasantly mild, delicate yet distinct flavour, described as earthy and bitter with a slight hint of sweetness and citrus. It is surprisingly juicy and crisp to the bite. It’s related to ginger, looking and tasting vaguely similar.

Here are a few reasons you may want to try turmeric:

  • A potent anti-inflammatory, known for its ability to help relieve symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • Triggers bile production, which aids the digestive system and may offer relief from indigestion, heartburn and even irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Turmeric has a high content of dietary fibre, also aiding in healthy digestion.
  • Turmeric root has naturally occurring anti-bacteria, anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.
  • The fresh root is a very rich source of many essential vitamins such as B1, B2, B3, B6, and choline. In particular it is high in Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that supports the immune system and aids in removing free radicals.
  • It also has high amounts of minerals such as calcium, iron (extremely high), potassium, manganese, copper, zinc, phosphorus, phytonutrients, and magnesium.
  • Turmeric has been called The natural liver detoxifier, which can improve liver function and promote healthy blood.
  • Promotes healthy skin through nourishment and cleansing, healing wounds and treating skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne and eczema.

As little as 1 teaspoon (3 or 4 grams) of fresh turmeric included in your meal daily is recommended to nourish the body and prevent illness, giving you about 100 mg of curcumin along the way.

Ingredients: Turmeric Root

Origin: Fiji

Enjoy Me...

  • Fresh root contains all the flavour and goodness of the fresh spice. Powdered turmeric is convenient and great to use in baking but the fresh root is best used in juices, smoothies and other cooking where the flavour can be appreciated.

Storage

  • Storage is best under dry conditions. When you buy your root make sure it's dry before you storing. It is also best kept chilled, where it will keep for several weeks. Another great option is to freeze it - upon defrosting the root wil be soft (as it's cells burst upon freezing) but it's still super potent and usable.

Sheree has the best fresh, brightly coloured turmeric. I eat it raw or use it in cooking when a recipe calls for turmeric/ turmeric powder. Great stuff!

Lovely fresh Tumeric. I have been making Jamu juice with this and having a shot every day in my morning smoothie. Nice to know it is spray free too so no nasties.

Exciting to see fresh turmeric at my local P&S sold in 200g packs
I use it in my cooking, smoothies/tea & skin conditioner for its anti inflammatory antioxidant & anti microbial properties
