Ceres Amaranth Grain (organic, gluten free) - 500g
Amaranth, also known as "kiwicha," is a tiny, grain-like seed that packs a big nutritional punch. Higher in protein than many other grains, it is a great gluten-free option that boasts nutrient density, thickening abilities and a mild, nutty flavour.
To cook, simmer 1 cup of organic amaranth in 2 1/2 cups of water for 18-25 minutes or until tender. To enhance the flavour, add fresh herbs or ginger root or use half measures of water and stock or apple juice. For a delicious breakfast cereal, increase the liquid to 3 cups and sweeten with honey or brown rice syrup.
Ingredients: Organic Amaranth
Origin: Packed in New Zealand from imported ingredients (India)
Certification: BioGro
Enjoy Me...
- We use amaranth in the same way as all other grains (to accompany stews and curries). It also goes really well in cold tabbouleh style recipes.
How Interesting...
- This ‘grain’ is quite dense so we like to combine it with other grains to get a varied texture. It combines well with millet and quinoa as it has similar cooking times.
