Quinoa was regarded by the Ancient Incans of South America to be “the mother of all grains”. It provides a balanced serving of carbohydrates, protein, and dietary fibre, along with significant amounts of B vitamins, Vitamin E and omega-6 essential fatty acids. Organic White Quinoa is the perfect rice substitute. It is cooked in a similar manner as rice and has a light, fluffy, slightly crunchy texture and slightly nutty flavour. Dry quinoa can also be the perfect addition to your soups, stews, cereals, or any other meal you want to bulk up with an extra dose of nutrition.

  • Cooked quinoa is similar in flavour, texture and consistency to both rice and couscous, but it is much more nutritious. Try substituting this superfood for rice or couscous in all sorts of recipes–stir fry, soup, casseroles and more.
  • To Cook: Rinse under running water. In a pot, put in a cup of quinoa with two cups of water or stock (for added flavour), cover and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to simmer until all liquid is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes.
  • You can make your own quinoa flour by lightly toasting the quinoa and grinding it down to a powder.
